BLM extends withdrawal of public lands

CARSON CITY — Officials with the Bureau of Land Management last week said the agency had extended the withdrawal of nearly 685,000 acres of public lands in connection with Naval Air Station Fallon. The land falls within Churchill, Lyon, Mineral, Nye and Pershing counties.

A withdrawal of public lands, in this instance, reserves the land for a specific purpose and is used when transferring management of land from one federal agency to another.

The four-year extension of the withdrawal granted to the Department of the Navy maintains the land’s current uses and restrictions.

BLM also said an additional nearly 70,000 acres of land in the Dixie Valley area of Churchill County are withdrawn from leasing under the mineral leasing laws. Another more than 66,000 acres of non-federal lands are in the withdrawal area.
