BLM offers Christmas tree permits starting November 15
CARSON CITY—Permits to harvest Christmas trees from areas within the Bureau of Land Management’s Carson City District go on sale Nov. 15. Permits cost $5 each and people can purchase up to 10 for individual use.
The BLM provides a map and permit guidelines with each permit purchase. Permits are valid for trees harvested within the district on BLM lands, including:
- Pine Nut Mountains between Carson City and Yerington
- Clan Alpine and Desatoya Mountains east of Fallon
- Excelsior Mountains southeast of Hawthorne
Wilderness study areas and trees near city or residential areas are off limits. Permits are valid from the date of purchase through Dec. 25.
BLM officials said those who set out to harvest a Christmas tree should follow all guidelines for use of public lands and be prepared with warm clothing, first aid, extra food and water, shovel and tire chains, and of course tools to harvest the tree and transport it back home.
