Thomas Urso of Fallon was promoted Sunday to first sergeant and assumed responsibility of the 1859th Transportation Company, 757th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion.

"One goal I have as the new first sergeant is to be able to provide the kind of leadership that these soldiers will gain knowledge and guidance from," Urso said.

The outgoing First Sgt. Mayra Haaglund of Reno was recognized for her contributions to the unit by being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal presented by the 757th Combat Sustainment Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Joseph Claros.

Haaglund was also recognized for 20 years of service with an achievement plaque presented to her on behalf of the entire company. She was also the "master trainer of the company" for the past three years.
The responsibilities for training and the welfare of the soldiers are a symbol of the 1859th company's colors.
