Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum temporarily closing

CARSON CITY—Following Gov. Steve Sisolak’s “Stay Home 2.0” plan, leaders at the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum have decided to close the facility temporarily to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

“Out of an abundance of caution for our visitors and for the Stewart alumni, elders, and our volunteers, we want to ask the community to stay home except for essential functions and to wear masks and practice social distancing if going out,” said Stewart Museum Director Bobbi Rahder.

“We want everyone to remain safe and healthy and hope that the infection numbers will go down so we can reopen again, hopefully by the beginning of December.”

The museum, which celebrated the opening of its new facility in January, was forced to close in March due to the pandemic shutdowns and faced severe budget cuts. It re-opened in late July after receiving a large donation, and has been operating following state COVID-19 guidelines.
